What changes the price

  • Most hot tubs are too big to move in one piece and are cut up on site, which takes tools and time.
  • Size, whether it's sunk into a deck, and how far it is from the truck all change the job.
  • The tub has to be drained and disconnected from power first; hard-wired tubs need an electrician to disconnect them.
  • The shell and cabinet go to the landfill or recycler by weight.

How to save

  • Drain it and have the power disconnected before the crew arrives so you aren't paying them to wait.
  • A working hot tub can sometimes be sold or given away to someone who will pick it up.
  • Donate what still works: Habitat for Humanity ReStores and local charities take furniture and appliances in good condition, and some pick up for free.
  • Check your city's bulk-trash pickup before paying a hauler; many cities collect large items a few times a year at no extra charge.
